Area 3A (South-Central Alaska) Halibut Charter Fishing Regulations for 2026:
Halibut fishing regulations for 2026 have not been announced yet. They will be finalized in late January following the meeting of the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC). This year the IPHC annual meeting will be held January 19-22, 2026 in Bellevue, WA.
Area 3A (South-Central Alaska) Halibut Charter Fishing Regulations for 2025:
– Two halibut per angler daily bag limit.
– One halibut can be any size, one must be less than 27 inches in length.
– No annual limit.
– Halibut retention while fishing on charter is prohibited on all Tuesdays and Wednesdays in 2025.
These fishing limits apply to waters in regulatory area 3A, including Cook Inlet, north portions of the Gulf of Alaska, Kachemak Bay, Resurrection Bay, and Prince William Sound. 3A encompasses the ports of Homer, Seward, Kodiak, Valdez, Cordova, Yakatat, and others. – Halibut fishing on charter is prohibited on all Wednesdays and 7 Tuesdays (June 20-August 15).
2023 Emergency Orders from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game:
– Anglers can retain only 1 king salmon May 15-July 31 in Lower Cook Inlet salt waters south of Bluff Point (59° 40.00′ N. lat.).
– Fishing for king salmon north of Bluff Point is closed May 15-July 31, 2023.
